About Lotto 6/49
Lotto 6/49 is the Ontario Lottery game with two separate jackpots – a fixed $5 million in the Classic Draw, plus a rolling Gold Ball jackpot that can grow to more than $60 million!
Draws are held twice a week, on Wednesday and Saturday. You can buy tickets until 10:30pm Eastern Time on draw nights. A draw break takes place from 10:30 to 10:40pm during the draw and you are not able to buy tickets during this period.
Fun fact: The biggest-ever Lotto 6/49 jackpot was $54.3 million, won by a group of Alberta oil and gas workers in October 2005.
How to Play Ontario Lotto 6/49
For a $3 play, you get one set of numbers from 1 to 49 that is entered in the Classic Draw. You also receive a second 10-digit number for the Gold Ball game.
Playing is easy. Pick up a Lotto 6/49-Ontario 49 selection slip. Check the box under "Lotto 6/49", or check "BOTH" to also play the same numbers for Ontario 49. Mark six numbers from 1 to 49 on one "board" on your slip. You can play up to 10 times on one slip by marking six numbers per board you want to play. Each board costs $3.

How to Win
In the Classic Draw, six winning numbers plus one bonus number are drawn every Wednesday and Saturday night between 10:30-10:40pm Eastern Time. Match all six main numbers to win the jackpot. You can also win a prize by matching 5, 4, 3 or even 2 main numbers, with or without the bonus number. The odds of winning any prize are approximately 1 in 6.6.
In the Gold Ball game, a 10-digit number is drawn. You must match all 10 digits to win. If you win, you are guaranteed at least $1 million but there is a chance you could win $10 million or more. Find out more on the Gold Ball page.
Prize Amounts
There is one winning ticket in each Gold Ball game. The winner rceives either $1 million, or the rolling jackpot.
For the Classic Draw, the jackpot stays at $5 million in every draw whether someone wins or not. If there are multiple jackpot winners, the prize is shared. For the other Lotto 6/49 prizes, winners receive a pari-mutuel share of the total prize money in a category. That means that the total amount of money for a prize tier will be divided among all the winners at that level.
Combination Play
A Combination Play ticket is like a regular ticket, but better - you have multiple sets of numbers, so you can win multiple prizes! A Combination Play ticket can also win Lotto 6/49 prizes just like a normal ticket.
You'll need a Lotto 6/49-Ontario 49 Combination Play Selection Slip. Note that this is not the same as the Lotto 6/49-Ontario 49 Selection Slip.
Mark the games you want to play: Lotto 6/49, Ontario 49, or both.
To play, choose five, seven, eight or nine numbers from 1 to 49. Your numbers will automatically be combined into six-number sets.
For each combination, you'll also get a 10-digit set of numbers for the guaranteed prize draw.
To play your numbers for up to 10 consecutive future draws, mark how many draws you'd like in the Advance Play box.
Below is the cost of each type of Combination Play:
- 5-number Combination Play: $132
- 7-number Combination Play: $21
- 8-number Combination Play: $84
- 9-number Combination Play: $252
You may also add Encore for an additional $1 per play.
You win if your numbers match the numbers drawn. The Lotto 6/49 main draw has six numbers and one bonus number.
A 10-digit number is drawn for the guaranted prize draw.
Five-Number Play
In this type of Combination Play, your five numbers from 1-49 stay the same, while the sixth number is added from the remaining numbers. This results in a total of 44 possible combinations for the main draw, and 44 10-digit numbers for the guaranteed prize draw.
If you choose 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 as your numbers, then the 44 combinations would be:
- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7
- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8
- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9
... continuing in this way until all 44 combinations are generated.
Your ticket will show the five numbers you chose; it will not show all the combinations, which are recorded in the lottery computer.
The 44 numbers for the guaranteed prize draw will be shown as a range of numbers with the first eight digits the same and the last two digits from 01-44.
For example: 12345678-01 TO 12345678-44.
Seven-Number Play
For this Combination Play, you select seven numbers from 1-49. Your numbers are organised in combinations of six numbers - so you receive seven sets of numbers for the main draw, and seven 10-digit numbers for the guaranteed prize draw.

- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Your ticket will show the seven numbers you picked - but all combinations are recorded in the lottery computer.

For example: 13524678-01 TO 13524678-07.
Eight-Number Play
The eight numbers you choose from 1 to 49 are organised in sets of six numbers each, for a total of 28 unique sets for the main draw, plus 28 10-digit numbers for the guaranteed prize draw.

The sets continue in this way until all 28 combinations are generated from the original numbers you chose.
Your ticket will not show all combinations; it will show your original eight numbers. However, all combinations are stored in the lottery computer.
The 28 guaranteed prize draw numbers will be shown as a range, with the first eight digits the same and the last two digits from 01-28.
For example: 13524678-01 TO 13524678-28.
Nine-Number Play
Your nine numbers are organised in sets of six numbers, for a total of 84 unique combinations for the main draw, plus 84 10-digit numbers for the guaranteed prize draw.
