Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw

Changes are coming to the Lotto 6/49 Ontario Lottery draw game in September 2022. On this page, you'll find out about the updates to the main draw (soon to be renamed the Classic Draw) that OLG will introduce this fall.

Tickets for the enhanced game will be available starting on Sunday, September 11, 2022, and the first draw with the changes in effect will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

Current Lotto 6/49 Main Draw

Currently, the Lotto 6/49 game features two draws: a main draw for a rolling jackpot that starts at $5 million, plus a $1 million guaranteed prize draw. The Ontario Lottery conducts two Lotto 6/49 draws a week, held every Wednesday and Saturday between 10:30 to 10:40 PM Eastern Time. Each Lotto 6/49 draw features a main draw and a guaranteed prize draw.

In the main draw, six numbers from 1 through 49 are randomly selected, plus a seventh bonus number. Players who match all six main numbers drawn win the top prize.

Changes to Lotto 6/49: Classic Draw

Starting this fall, the main draw will become the Classic Draw. The jackpot will become a fixed $5 million prize, rather than increasing in every draw until it's won as it does now. Players will still have the chance to win it every Wednesday and Saturday evening if they match all six main numbers drawn.

The overall changes of winning any prize on the Classic Draw will continue to be a favourable 1 in 6.6.

The guaranteed prize draw is also getting a makeover; you can read more about that on the Gold Ball Jackpot page.

This page will be updated with any new information as it is released by the OLG. Who's excited for the new and improved Lotto 6/49?
